City SC Chula Vista is proud to present the Chula Vista 4v4 Spring Cup, a fast-paced, small-sided soccer tournament designed to provide young players with a competitive and fun soccer experience. This one-day event features 4v4 matches on 25×35 yard fields, emphasizing skill development, teamwork, and fast gameplay in a safe and organized environment.

TOURNEY FORMAT
On-Field: 4 players on the field (no goalkeeper) // 4v4 // 8 players max per team roster
Game Length: 2 x 12 minutes halves (running clock with no timeouts) (2 minutes half time breaks)
Game Guarantee: Minimum of 3 games plus playoffs for advancing teams
PLAYER CARDS
All Teams will compete at the 2026/27 school-age group level and must also present laminated USYSA / US Club player cards for the 2026/27 season (no mixed cards), proof of age, and signed medical release forms.

TOURNAMENT RULES
Registration
- Cost: $375 per team (including referee fees)
- Guarantee: Minimum of 3 games plus playoffs for advancing teams
- Roster Size: 8 players max per team
- Deadline: April 12, 2026
- Teams must register at the MANDATORY REGISTRATION. Mandatory Registration is at the Check-In/Registration tent at the field of play, a minimum of 30 minutes before the team’s first game. Failure to appear on time at Mandatory Registration will result in automatic disqualification from the tournament without a refund
- By registering your team(s), you are committing to play all games scheduled for your team(s). Games not played will be classified as a forfeit under the rules below. Games will not be rescheduled. All teams are committed to ALL playing games, as scheduled
Tournament Format
- Age Divisions: U6–U19 (boys & girls divisions)
- On-Field: 4 players on the field (no goalkeeper)
- Ball Size: Play with the same ball size that was used in the regular season unless playing “up”
- Goals: 4×6 ft portable goals
- Field size: 25×35 yards
- Goal Box Arc: Estimated 5 ft in front of goal, 8 ft wide (half circle)
- Game Length: 2 x 12 minute halves (running clock with no timeouts) (2 minute half time breaks
Tournament Rules
- No Offsides → Players can move freely to create scoring chances
- No throw-ins → all kick-ins from a boundary line
- Fouls and all free kicks are direct kicks
- Constant substitutions on the fly
- Players in U11 and younger are not permitted to head the ball; Players in U12 and older are allowed
- Defending teams will give 3 yards on all kicks from the field (unless space permits otherwise)
- Goal kicks may be taken from anywhere on the end line
- No player may touch the ball within the Goal Area (however players may run through the goal area)
- Goals may only be scored from the offensive half of the field
- If offensive player touches the ball in goal area → goal kick
- If defensive player touches the ball in goal area → penalty kick (a direct free kick from anywhere on the goal line into open goal – all players will be behind the ball – once the penalty kick is taken it will either result in a goal for the shooter’s team or a dead ball indirect kick for the defense
- If the ball stops in goal area → goal kick) without touching a player, the ground, or the wall. Violation results in an indirect free kick at the spot where the ball crossed the third line.
Discipline:
- Yellow Card offense – player must be subbed from the field for 3 minutes
- Red Card offense (2 yellows) – player gets disqualified from the game, but can play the following game (unless the Tournament Director decides otherwise)
- Red Card offense – Fighting of any violent conduct or verbal abuse to referees or to opposite team players – player gets disqualified from the tournament
Mercy Rule:
- At the trailing coach’s discretion, if the lead is 6 or more goals, the leading team will remove one field player
- If the score gap gets within 3 goals, the team must go back to 4 players on the field
Point System:
- 3 points for win
- 1 point for tie
- 0 point for loss
Tie Breaker Criteria during preliminary games (if 2 – 3 teams are tied in total points)
- Head-to-head competition
- Fewest goals scored (max. 5 per game)
- Most goals allowed
- Most Shutouts
- Penalty kicks (1 kick take sudden death – this will continue thru all players rotating until we have a winner)
Tie Breaker Criteria during playoffs or Final games (a 3 minute sudden death goal will determine the winner)
- Each team will pull off a player (3v3) for 3 minutes, if still tied
- Each team will pull off a player (2v2) for 3 minutes, if still tied
- Each team will pull off a player (1v1) for 3 minutes, until a winner is decided
Inclement Weather Policy During a tournament, inclement weather policies typically prioritize player safety and fair play. Decisions made by tournament organizers, the City, and/or school district fields are all based on weather conditions and field/course conditions. In the event of inclement weather (e.g. rain or other circumstances out of the tournament’s control) leading to complete cancellation of the event:
- The tournament will refund 25% of the teams’ registration fee paid if 0 games were played
- The tournament will refund 20% of the teams’ registration fee paid if 1 game was played
- The tournament will refund 10% of the teams’ registration fee paid if 2 games were played
